red ochre
...this very soft stone is used as a base in
making red ochre paint. By itself it leaves a
distinct burnt orange stain but processed
by the old time Southern Tutchone
artists it became a beautiful
dark blood red.
T'si Ma
Red ochre* Mother
The Southern Tutchone name for this mountain
is
T'si Ma (Red Ochre Mother).
Today it's known by its non-aboriginal name
Golden Horn.
This mountain is situated just south and east of
Whitehorse and the McIntyre Range.
