...live throughout North America, Africa, and Asia. They eat the inner bark of trees; herbs; catkins; currant and rose bushes; dandelions, clover, grass and the leaves of alder, poplar and willow. In Southern Tutchone traditional stories the porcupine is brother-in-law to the beaver. This young one was cruising along the Grey Mountain Road in Whitehorse during the summer of 2010.

live throughout the Northern Hemisphere. Adopted as the Yukon's Official Bird October, 28th, 1985. Four ravens settling in for a feed of mountain ash berries on Third Avenue in Whitehorse during the winter of 2009.

The mountain ash has been brought down from the higher elevations of the Yukon and used as ornamental decoration throughout Whitehorse. The deciduous tree flowers in June and July with the red berries appearing in August and September to remain on the tree throughout the winter. Birds, such as these ravens, find the berries "yummy".

Boyd Benjamin made his debut on the world stage during the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, BC. A citizen of the Vuntut Gwichin of Old Crow, Yukon with family ties to Carcross, Yukon, Boyd is the recipient of the Special Youth Award from the 2008 National Aboriginal Achievement Awards, has his pilot and helicopter licenses, plays the violin, the trombone, the oboe, and the guitar. Boyd taught himself to play the fiddle at the age of fourteen listening to his grandfather and uncles play.



A veteran of the Yukon music scene, Metis performer Kevin Barr is the co-founder of the Undertakin Daddies, was nominated for a Juno in 2001 and a West Coast Music Award in 2002. He's toured Europe several times and has toured the Philippines. His music includes his own compositions as well as songs learned from his father, uncles, and family friends. His most recent album is entitled "Lost and Found".
Boyd and Kevin opened for Buffy St. Marie at the Palace Grand Theatre during the 2010 Dawson City Music Festival.


Canadian Cree singer, songwriter, musician, visual
artist, composer, teacher, and philanthropist originally from the Piapot Reserve in Saskatchewan, Buffy performed in the Palace Grand Theatre in Dawson City, Yukon on July 15, 2010. Her most recent album is entitled "Running for the Drum".
