corvus corax ~ corvidae
live throughout the Northern Hemisphere. Adopted as the Yukon's Official Bird October, 28th, 1985. Four ravens settling in for a feed of mountain ash berries on Third Avenue in Whitehorse during the winter of 2009.
sorbus americana ~ rosaceae...
The mountain ash has been brought down from the higher elevations of the Yukon and used as ornamental decoration throughout Whitehorse. The deciduous tree flowers in June and July with the red berries appearing in August and September to remain on the tree throughout the winter. Birds, such as these ravens, find the berries "yummy".
